Dear Friends,
Sarayu and DGB employees have been under fire for the last three months. Though the company was Down sized, the fired and the existing employees have not been paid since September 2008. Moreover the PF of the Sarayu employees share has not been deposited Since april 2008, but management has deducted it from employees Salary. Though he is a multi millioniare there is no proper response or communication from Mr. Suresh Dholakia (One of the Founder of Sasken) regarding Salary issues.
Apart from management side, there is no proper response from our CFO Mr.Shashi. As the CFO, he never took any charge regarding any issue, he is one of the irresponsible man in the prestigious position.
So I request everyone who worked and working in DGB and Sarayu to spread this message to everyone and share your views, so that at least we can take an initiative to get justice for us.

He has a track record of funding/operating well known IT companies and he has made quite a fortune. With this fortune, he started Sarayu Softech, Sarayu Telecom& Accelworks. Initially these companies were doing good and generating revenues. As he was doing business with many chip vendors, Suresh wanted to start his own
ReplyDeleteMobile Chip compnay in India. an ambitious plan, for which he has to be congratulated. So, the journey of DigiBee Microsystems started in early 2004 and Suresh Dholakia became the CEO and President of the compnay. He roped in top IT guys from Sasken, freescale, Motorola, Ubinetics, IIT's, IIM's etc and paid them 200% than the market average. But he also hired a bunch of jokers who said "yes sir" to whatever he did/said. One of the joker is thier HR head, and some of his loyal people who have been working or associated with him from many years. He invested some of his fortune and also got in funding from Clearstone venture and SIDBI ventures. He got all the neessary IP's/licences to start working on this chipset program. He started offices in Bangalore, Chennai & in Shenzen, China.
Ok. so far it was a good story of an indian company working on a mobile chipset. Now, Suresh got an idea to sell cheap chineese phones into the indian market. His changed his focus from mobile phone chipsets to selling phones. He strated diverting the funding given for chipset program into setting up phone business. Well, did I tell you that he was a Gujju (Gujarati businessman)!. Now, as his focus shifted to selling phones, he wanted to get rid of some top guys who he was paying a lot in chipset program, so he used HR head's shoulder and fired them. This shift in his focus, caused delays in chipset program and the initial plan of first chipset roll-out in mid 2007 did not happen. He stated defaulting payment to the IP vendors. He started convincing them by showing paper-tigers(power-point presentations), and they kind of agreed for defered payments from DigiBee. Also, there are instances where he used IP licenses in DigiBee which were got/bought through his other companies without the IP companies knowing it.
As he setup the mobile phone business, he got orders from BSNL after paying huge bribes to officials. Now, as it was clear that it is two seperate busniesses, he split the phone arm to be called a DigiBee Mobiles in early 2008. In DigiBee Mobiles, he started to give impossible targets to the sales folks and one by one people started to quit.
Coming back to DigiBee Microsystems, as the funds were over (cos Suresh diverted it to fund digibee mobiles), he went to investors to ask for more money. They sensed a foul play and told him to get customers for chipset and then only they will fund Microsystems. The message was clear so, he and his top folks went to china to find customers and they found some also. He signed an MoU with them, and based on it, investors funded more. Out of the X million which came in new, he diverted X/2 to DigiBee Mobiles.
Now, he gained confidence and created flyers of chipsets and platforms which were on the roadmap, but never anything in practical (as still the first chipset was not even sent for fabrication), and his sales folks went to more customers in China, Europe and USA. People believed these flyers and one US & another Chineese company gave an MoU to buy this chipset. But, our man, Suresh went to meet these customers and asked for 1 Million USD in advance and then only he said he will supply the chipset. The same he did with another Japaneese company and all stopped talking to DigiBee cos to this demand from a startup compnay to pay up 1 Mn USD as advance !!
About his work style: He never trusts his employees and it was such that from the office boy to the VP level, all were reporting to him !! He would ask his marketing folks to create colletrals/flyers and at least he would have printed 10 revisions before finalizing. Once the marketing folks print in large quantities, he would ask for more changes which would result in wastege of the bulk prints earlier. He never values time: if a meeting is called for say 5 to 6PM, he would turn up to the meeting only by 7PM, and once he starts the meeting, he continues to talk for 2 hours non-stop, thereby wasting everybody's time. Even though he is an investor in DigiBee, he draws a monthly salary. He is a frequest traveller to Mumbai/Chennai and USA, work is related to his other companies like Sarayu, Accelworks. All his tickets are booked by DigiBee Microsystems.
About his personal life: He is a citizen of USA, and his family is in Silicon Valley. In Bangalore, he stays in a service appartment which is about 250 mts from office. The service appartment bills are paid by DigiBee Microsystems, and he leads a royal life there. From service appartment to DigiBee office, even though it’s hardly 250 mts, he travels by the the service apartment's car, and car bills are paid by DigiBee Microsystems. With the fortune he made in Sasken, he has invested along with a Kannada film Producer in a 300 acre land near Devanahalli where they are constructing a resort. In early 2008, he bought a land/corner site behind new Nandhini in Indiranagar/Domlur, worth 2.5 Crores, and from Aug08 he is constructing a 3 storey house there.
Ok, now coming to what happened recently in DigiBee. Finally the first chip was taped-out and sent for fabrication. He delayed the payments to the fabrication facility and hence they also delayed the delivery. finally the chip came to DigiBee in Oct 08, when it was supposed to come in Aug 08. Some of the key folks in the company were dissatisifed with Suresh's atitude and behaviour and the lies he used to tell the customers by showing the colletrals, they started to quit one by one. Now, his other companies, Sarayu group, had a similar issue and people started to move out. Sarayu emplpoyees were not paid
salaries from july08, and in oct08, he forced about 60 people there to quit without salaries. To sustain other employees, he got some of the employeees to work on DigiBee projects in DigiBee premisis, and for thier 2 months work, he billed 400K USD and DigiBee paid Sarayu that amount. With this amount he is trying to run Sarayu, but he is not paying salaries to sarayu employees also.
By Sep08, he had exhausted all the investors money in DigiBee Microsystems. meanwhile, DigiBee Mobiles got some revenues from the sales made into BSNL. Also, he opened one more company in USA called Secure Box Croporation. When the time came to pay Oct08 salaries, he put up his hands, and there was no proper communication with the employees as when the salaries would be paid. Investors started asking him explanations for the money they invested and Suresh was rolally stripped. Sensing trouble, he backed up data in each and every PC/laptop in DigiBee over a weekend. Now, to reduce expenses, he started to fire employees. First he closed China office, and because he did not pay salaries, they filed a case in Chineese labour court. For the employees who were fired and who quit by themselves in all DigiBee locations, instead of final settlement, he stared giving IOU letters.
In Nov08, he came up wih an idea to use the remaining employees and make DigiBee Microsystems into an Services company from a Product company. They got some luck, and got some services orders, but till Dec08, that is 3 months, he did not pay his employees and his employee count reduced from 160 in April08 to 30 in Dec08. He also stated defaulting payments to IP/License vendors and they started to send notices. DigiBee has 3 offices in Bangalore, and he has closed one office and he is in the verge of closing other one and he is planning to operate only from the 3rd office. When employees started asking about salaries, he started to tell them that but vacating 2 buliding, he will get back the deposit amount and pay the employees. he is telling this story from Nov08 and till now in jan09, he is telling the same story. With all this happening, his 3 storey house construciton is going on in full swing. He travelled twice to USA with DigiBee Microsystems paying up for the tickets. During this travel, he packed all the documents related to DigiBee, the data backup and transported them to USA.
Also Microsoft had a raid in DigiBee premisis for usage of Microsoft software without license.
Well, this is the story of Suresh Dholakia. His main intension in life is to play with investors money and make money himself. He is so clever, even though he calls himself President & CEO of DigiBee Microsystems, on all company legal documents (like registration, deals etc), he has used some other person and made sure that in case of any leagal problem, he will not be caught, and he can easily escape to USA. The next step what he would do is to file for bankruptcy, so that he need not pay salaries to his employees and I’m sure, he will not hesitate to open another company in India with his loyal supporters.
The moral of the story is, never trust a gujju businessman who is promoting an IT company !! :) & that too with investors like Clearstone Ventures & SIDBI Ventures.
Big question is: what NEXT.. Gujju please comment on this.. Did he knew that recession is coming so he started accumulating dgb's fund in his big stoamch :D lol

Even suresh is doing business to earn money only. No one will come and work without salary,if thats the case then it may become social service. .

I am not supporting Suresh... from an emotional angle he might be wrong. But, finally as I say, it is business.
ReplyDeleteAbout the PF, just complain to the PF authorities, or just ask for a withdrawal of money, and they will get it for u. They do it all the time.
Otherwise, he might have used illegal software, or he might have been the sole decision maker, all these are upto him, and his way of making money. He will be sued by those who made losses because of that.
Now, just because he mismanaged and his business ran into losses, and employees lost jobs, can you do anything against him legally? No. Only the PF credit is illegal, and he will be questioned aptly. He cannot escape from paying the PF dues anyway.
But otherwise, companies shutting down, and employees being shown the door are common all over the world, and it is just new for us Indians. It was our first job, and that makes us emotional.
Employees in IT always face this risk. If tomorrow US decides to stop outsourcing and if all IT services employees lose their jobs, can you say Obama is a cheat and it is illegal? That is how all businesses work. It is not a government job.
Mr.X all your explanations are really unacceptable. There is nothing here to talk about whether he is doing anything legal or illegal, the point whether he is loyal to his employees or not.

But I never heard a company Layed off people without giving their salaries. even if they are sent out, they have been given their compensation. This is what happening everywhere. Also, all employees do know about to complain respective authorities regarding PF, but that is not the way to show our loyality to Company.
I don't know whether the gentle man who wrote above blog might be ware of it or not. One funny and crazy thing is there is no point in comparing the current scenario with obama. Don't make any funny comments. I think you could have seen the blog written by someone about Honourable Mr.SURESH. Even after knowing all these facts, its really horrible to see a comment like this.

ReplyDeleteActually, I, Mr.X, is also a victim, and have yet to receive my PF amount from DGB. I am just telling my point. And, yes, I know of a lot of other companies which have sent employees out without compensation - (at least here Suresh has given an IOU, I know companies which are just showing bare hands to ex-employees who were not paid).

It is just my point of view, and nothing else. Speaking of loyalty or morality or honesty, I would still hate Suresh and call him a cheat, a crook, and blame him for all my problems. But thinking from a third person angle, I know those things are meaningless in business, and the only thing that practically matters is profit, loss, growth, downsizing, and ultimately, just cold money.

ReplyDeleteI am also a victim...This stupid Suresh hired me at the time when he was not able to pay salaries to existing employees. And in my first meeting in DGB I was told that company is in trouble and we will nto get salary. What a welcome that was.

But what we should do is "Make sure that everybody in IT industry knows about his Modus Operandi (read as cheating employees)". Recession will be over one day...Market will be up...And Suresh will come to market with some other company (name changed)...But he cant change his name. If we post enough info about his chats on internet (through mail groups, blogs etc..) then slowly but surely everyone will know about him. And nobody will join his company when times are good.
Now He will start a company in America....3-4 later he will close it there & Come back India to do Other Company...This is the Style for him..

ReplyDeleteI have informed u all abt the suresh and his followers long before and asked u guys to look for jump. But u people did not hear me, now u r worrying.
Some of or most of the DGB employees want to be in chennai and enjoy with less work, plz change ur attitude. I have seen, most of the people had this issue.
Don't restric urself to be in ur native place. Roam around the world, then only u will learn many things. When the situation was good, nobody try to move.
As a employee of any company, within some time, u will come to know, how the company is performing and what they r doing.
I can say this is completely mistake by the employee. u have to chose ur carrier.
Most of our friends started searching job, when DGB was abt to close, that also when the market situation is not in good shape.
Some of the people had taken good decision and jumped when the market was in good shape.
Plz learn the lessons and do not commit anymore mistake.
Hope most of u guys would have got the job. If not, wait for another 2 more months, market is picking up very fast. Do not worry.
DGB shut their door not all. Most of the companies started hiring, plz be in touch with ur ex-colleague.

We all (victims of suresh) have been cheated already. Now we should make sure that everybody in the IT world knows about him. I have posted his all wrong doings to all the mail groups I belong. I request others also to do the same so thhat more and more people know about him.
